Wednesday Events
BARA’s Summer Break The Summer Party was the last Wednesday event before BARA takes its summer break. Wednesday events will restart on 9th September. |
9th September Eamon Delaney will present ‘The Old Tenements and the New Suburbs’ describing the social effects of the transition from Dublin’s cramped 18th-century tenements to newly built 20th-century suburbs. |
16th September A presentation on the Lord Anglesey Scandal. |
23rd September ‘One / Two’ Music Quiz – One third classical / Two thirds pop questions to suit all musical tastes. |
30th September Bill’s Quiz takes place in St. Johns while some members are away on the Youghal trip. |
7th October and 14th October Either – A presentation by Gerry Murphy from Met Eireann Or Miscellany. To be decided. |
14th October Discover Dublin Port history with a presentation from Lar Joye, the Port Heritage Director at Dublin Port Company, where he has managed the port’s extensive 300-year-old archive and industrial heritage collection since 2017. He is also the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Irish Museums Association. |
21st October Charity Fundraiser for motor neuron disease. |

9th December As we approach the festive season Cathy Scuffil delivers a fun and informative talk on “The Twelve Pubs of Christmas” delving into the fascinating history behind some of Dublin’s most iconic pubs. |

Overnight Trips
28th September – BARA Autumn Trip 3 nights half board staying at the 4 Star Walter Raleigh Hotel in Youghal. The cost is €365 per person sharing or €405 for a single room. This includes the return bus trip to Youghal, 3 breakfasts, 3 evening meals, 3 nights entertainment and bus trips to local attractions for two of the days. Entrance fees to these attractions and the cost of other meals or snacks are at your own expense. Details to follow. |
